Scotch Tape Tutorial

This Scotc
h Tape Tutorial is made for PhotoShop 5.5 & 6.0.

Step  Description

Open a new image.   File - New or take ctrl/n and choose size 300x300px. Fill with your background color.

Create a new layer.  Go to your alpha channel - Create a new channel.
Use your rectangular marquee tool and make a shape like below.
Fill your selection with white. Deselect your image.

Still in your alpha channel you will need to Go to: Filter - Pixelate - crystallize.

  • Crystallize Setting:
    Cell size: 3

And you will get something like this:

Ctrl/click your channel layer to highlight your shape as below.

Go back to your layers and fill with white and deselect.

Use your rectangular marquee tool to clean your sides from the tags. Mark each side and hit delete to take it away like the image to the right.

Change your opacity down to normal: 25%. 

Go to: Filter - Effects - Dropshadow.

  • Drop Shadow Setting:
    Mode: Multiply
    Opacity: 50%
    Angle: 120
    Distance: 3
    Blur: 3
    Intensity: 0

Go to: Filter -Noise - Add Noise.

  • Noise Setting:
    Amount: 24
    Distrubution: Uniform
    Monochromatic: Checked

Now your image will look like below.

Ctrl/click your tape layer to highlight - Create a new layer. 

Go to: Filter - Sketch - Halftone Pattern.

  • Halftone Pattern Setting:
    Options: 12
    Contrast: 0
    Pattern Type: Line

Change your opacity down to softlight: c.a 16%. Now your image will look like the image to the right below - FINISHED.

To rotate your tapes as below - Link your 2 layers together.

Go to: Edit - Transform - Rotate and turn your image as much as you want.
